Free guide for commission makers

The Invisible Load.
A 12-point plan.

Why running a commission business feels heavier than it should - and what you can actually do about it.

If you run a commission business where every job and every client is different, you already know the feeling. The 2am thought about a job. The village shop moment when your mind goes blank. The message that could be anywhere - WhatsApp, Instagram, email, text.

It is not because you are disorganised. It is structural. Custom work generates information in a way that no standard business tool was built to handle. And most advice about running a small business is written for a completely different kind of business.

This free guide names 12 of those moments, gives you a practical solution for each one, and shows you the done-for-you alternative where it exists. Written by someone who has run a commission business for 27 years.

What's inside

Twelve recognisable moments. Twelve practical solutions.

The 2am thought You wake up remembering something about a job. By morning it is either gone or has kept you awake for two hours.
The village shop moment Someone asks how their order is coming along. Your mind goes completely blank.
The message that could be anywhere WhatsApp. Instagram DM. Email. Text. It arrived somewhere. Finding it is another matter.
The client who wants changes mid-job You have already started. Whether you can prove what was originally agreed is a different question.
The receipt you photographed It is somewhere in 4,000 photos on your phone. Between a picture of the dog and a screenshot of something you meant to read.
The most demanding client you have ever had Exhausting to manage - but potentially your best advocate when nothing gets dropped.

Plus six more. All recognisable. All solvable.

Who this is for

This guide is for makers who have been running a commission business long enough to know that the creative side was never the problem. The problem is everything around it.

It is not for people just starting out. It is for seasoned makers - jewellers, calligraphers, cake designers, dress makers, photographers, portrait artists, leather workers, engravers - who are good at what they do and tired of the admin chaos that comes with being busy.

If you make bespoke things for individual clients, and every job is different, this guide was written for you.

Who wrote this

I am Rosie Glassey - stone engraver and maker, based on the Isle of Man. I have been running a bespoke commission business for 27 years. My work has gone to Hampton Court Palace, Tynwald (the Isle of Man Parliament), cathedrals, and individual clients across the British Isles.

I built Just Three Places because I needed it myself. Every point in this guide is something I have lived with, worked around, and eventually solved. The guide gives you the practical steps. Just Three Places is the done-for-you version - installed in your own Google Drive, tested before handover, ready to use from day one.
